Interior Design Concept

The guests who come to this place stand at the front desk, stay in the guest rooms, eat in the dining room, drink at the bar, and talk. We thought about how to provide those guests with a sense of the characteristics and culture of the region where THE GATE HOTEL Ryogoku is located.

This town is known
1. As a town rich in culture with the Ryogoku Kokugikan and the Edo-Tokyo Museum
2. As with our sister hotel, Kaminarimon, a base for sightseeing in a central area, and a major transportation hub for trains and boats.
3. A city that has continued to witnessed the transition of time from "Edo" to "Tokyo" to "TOKIO 2020”.
4. A city where the Sumida River flows, watching the never ending changes in Tokyo.

The concept theme of "TIME & RIVER" was chosen for the hotel built on this land. The thought that "time spent with the Sumida River flowing unchanged through a changing city”.

A hotel where you can feel time, flowing through Tokyo.
A hotel created from the love for the land, love for the traditions, absorbing contemporary senses, where you can spend time while enjoying a great view.
We hope that our guests will spend and experience such a time.

With the Kokugikan and flowing patterns in the water as a part of the landscape.
The shimmering lights reflected on the river and shimmering voices of the people intersect at the restaurant where the winds can be felt, as time passes by the Sumida River.
The ramp at the Sumida River and a gentle breeze.　The playful spirit of Edo.

A modern take on the intertwining scenes of light and water.
The dramatic composition of horizontal/vertical intersections, within the powerful presence of the elements.
A rich space with a sense of depth by interweaving delicate art that allows you to feel the splash of water and light.

The expression of the hotel changes with time and the seasons. A hotel, one with the Sumida River.

“TIME AND SPACE: NOTHING IS ETERNAL WITHOUT EXPERIENCES OR MEMORIES", based on this concept, our team was established to realize a new design for space, not just limited to the physical pieces of design, but expanded to include the value of the experience.
Space, objects, buildings and time... none of these will remain in our memories without first being experienced. TIMELESS not only links subtle and fine details with luxurious spaces, but also values linking these to the special moments experienced there. We capture precious daily moments with friends and family and offer them as our designed spaces. When an experience is born in a space, it becomes eternal. That is why we call ourselves TIMELESS.

Logo Concept

The symbol for THE GATE HOTEL uses the letter for "gate",
門 (mon) as it's motif, evolving it into a modern version of the letter.
The horizontal lines represent the floors, and the spaces between the floors represent
the unseen services which are performed.
The subdued gold color is the image of an elegant and calm ambience.

Logo & Graphics

Taku Satoh

A graphic designer active in multiple fields ranging from designing products for daily use to directing educational TV programmes and exhibitions. The elegant symbol of THE GATE HOTEL which embodies our spirit of hospitality is a design based on the shape of a gate.
