Hari (needle) – Kuyo is an event to hold a memorial services for broken sewing needles and offer them to a shrine nearby in Japan. Awashima shrine and Temples to enshrine Awashima god is especially well known. The way of Hari Kuyo general is that to stick the needles into Tofu and Konnyaku placed on altars in temples and shrines to pray to gain proficiency in sewing. it is said the reason why Hari Kuyo in Sensoji became popular is because of Awashima Ganjin who walked around to preach about Awashima Myojin (God) in Japan and to go to Awashima Do in Sensoji. Many people including women who work in something related to sewing get together at Sensoji for Hari Kuyo to stick needles on Tofu to pray with a Shinto prayer by the priest.
